COMBINED ALTERNATE OVERVIEW/ATTAINMENT TASKS (AT) TRAINING OPENS MONDAY, AUGUST 27
The 2018-19 Alternate K-PREP Combined Overview/AT training and online quiz will be available the afternoon of Monday, August 27. The online trainings have been posted to the Alternate K-PREP Trainings page as they have been in the past. A recorded training provided by Kevin O’Hair from the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) focuses on the Overview for 2018-19. Jaci Norman and Karen Guettler from the University of Kentucky (UK) will provide guidance on the Attainment Task administration. The videos may take a few moments to load before they are active.
The training consists of two sections which include the Alternate K-PREP Overview and the AT training materials. In Section 1 Kevin O’Hair will focus primarily on material from the overview. In Section 2 Jaci Norman and Karen Guettler will provide material specific to the AT administration. An online quiz will be provided following the completion of training section 2. Once the quiz has been completed, confirm by printing two copies, one to keep in the Alternate Assessment and Accountability Folder (AAAF) and the other should be provided to the district administrator before the Attainment Tasks are handed over. The Administration Guide for the Alternate K-PREP Overview/AT is provided below along with a direct link to access the video and the training PowerPoints. The Overview/Attainment Task Training is scheduled to close Friday, November 2.

ALTERNATE ASSESSMENT STUDENTS MARKED BLIND/VISUALLY IMPAIRED (VI) ON IEP (District Action Required)
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) will provide tactically-enhanced supplemental materials (e.g., maps, graphs) for some grades on the Alternate K-PREP Attainment Tasks to students who have visual impairments. KDE must verify that the student has VI marked on their Individualized Education Program (IEP). If a student qualifies for these materials, please complete the following tasks:
- Verify a visual impairment has been clearly marked in the current IEP, and the student is identified as participating in Kentucky’s Alternate Assessment.
- Submit the student’s first and last name, SSID, grade, school, and district in the spreadsheet provided. Include any alternate assessment students in the district who will qualify for VI services in the attached spreadsheet. Save the spreadsheet as (your district name-2018 Window 1 VI Listing). Only one list containing all students who qualify for this accommodation should be provided per district.
- All submissions must be made to Kevin O’Hair no later than Friday, September 14 to receive thesetactically-enhanced materials for the first Alternate K-PREP Attainment Tasks window. Districts who submit late information will not receive these materials for Test Window 1 (November 5-December 14). For any additional questions or concerns please contact Kevin O’Hair or by phone at (502) 564-4394.

2018 K-PREP STUDENT DATA AVAILABLE IN PEARSONACCESSnext
The Kentucky Performance Rating for Educational Progress (K-PREP) student data is currently available electronically in PearsonAccessnext. The release provides initial results to support work with individual students in the upcoming school year and meets reporting expectations in Kentucky legislation. Alternate K-PREP science results are included. Since this was the first operational assessment for the new science test in grades 4 and 7, science student results will be released at a later date.
Data Available with This Release
Spring 2018 K-PREP individual student results include:
· District
o Combined K-PREP School Listing
o Combined Alternate K-PREP School Listing-High School
o Combined K-PREP School Summary Report
o K-PREP District School Listing Data File
o K-PREP District Summary Report
· School
o K-PREP School Listing
o Alternate K-PREP School Listing-High School
o K-PREP School Listing Data File
o K-PREP School Summary Report
Note: School/District Summary Reports and Individual Student Reports will be provided in PearsonAccessnext at a later date.
Cut Scores
A cut scores document for K-PREP, Alternate K-PREP and growth will be shared when finalized.
Data Sharing
The data provided in the August release is provided for school and district use only. It is confidential data and should be treated as such according to FERPA and student privacy expectations. Printed individual student reports will arrive in districts to be distributed following the Public Release of scores. Public release is tentatively scheduled for the end of September.
The Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) does not provide state data or school/district summary data with this release. The Office of Assessment and Accountability (OAA) cautions that self-generated summary reports from data files with only tested students will not match the 100-day accountability data and may not be accurate. Also, data will likely change during the data review period. Should your district generate summaries of your results, KDE strongly encourages you to place a local embargo on this self-generated data similar to the embargo KDE uses. KDE embargoed data are limited to school and district leadership including BACs. Embargoed data must not be discussed in public meetings or with media outlets. The Nondisclosure Agreement must be signed prior to accessing this data.
Accountability Reporting
The data release in PearsonAccessnext will not reflect accountability. A data review process using the Student Data Review and Rosters (SDRR) application began Wednesday, August 8. The data review allows schools and districts to double-check individual student accountability and demographics before public reporting.
Notifying OAA
Since the data released should include all students tested, OAA needs to be alerted if the files do not appear complete or other areas of concern are identified. For example, if a school tested 400 grade 3 students, but the file includes only 300 students, OAA staff needs to know about the discrepancy. Please contact the Data Group in OAA with details as soon as any issue is identified.
File Formats
Data in the PearsonAccessnext system are posted in school listings of all students tested. School listings contain scale scores, and performance levels (NAPD). The school listings are provided in two formats: 1) a PDF format that is static and, 2) an Excel format that may be sorted for different looks at the data. The school listing is organized by grade (i.e., 3, 4, 5), then by student names in alphabetical order (last name first). The district listing is organized alphabetically by the name of the school.
Step-by-Step Directions
Support documentation for PearsonAccessnext can be found at their Support Site. The PearsonAccessnext User’s Guide has step-by-step directions to complete specific tasks. The PearsonAccessnext step-by-step directions for accessing a published reports are available at this link.
Additionally, the Support Site contains training from spring 2018 that provides an overview of the system. Many steps, however, are geared to activities for the spring.
Assistance
If you have questions about the data release, please e-mail the Division of Assessment Support or Jennifer Stafford or phone (502) 564-4394. Issues with entering PearsonAccessnext must be addressed directing to Pearson as described above.
